On your way to Julia Pfeffier State Park, explore San Simeon Bay Trail, a moderate 4 mile trail along the bay, beginning at the beach and then a walk among the trees with lots of little hidden walkways to see the ocean. If you're lucky, you might see some whales!
Next, stop at Salmon Creek Trail located on CA- 1. This short, under half mile trail that will take you into a wooded, rocky area with a 120-foot waterfall and large pool at the base.
Our favorite activities include hiking Partington Cove, a steep 1 mile trail that descends through the rock tunnel to emerge onto a rocky beach where crashing waves create dramatic sea splashes.
A more challenging route is Tanbark Trail and Tin house, 6.1 miles through redwood and oak forests along a creek, climbing up to the Tin House where the trees clear and leave you with an unrestricted view across the canyon and down to the shoreline below.
Stop in Garrapata State Park to see Calla Lily Valley. Between January and April, hundreds of white Calla Lilies are in bloom here, in all other months, the trail is a leisure stroll through lush calla lily stems with views of the dramatic bay.
